Stratos Forms Stratos Government Services Inc, Dedicated to Serving U.S. Government Customers
BETHESDA, MD (July 20, 2006) - Stratos Global Corp. (TSX: SGB), a leading global provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions, today announced it has formed a separate company, wholly owned by Stratos, dedicated to serving U.S. government customers. The new company, Stratos Government Services, Inc. (SGSI), is a single-source integrator of multiple commercial satellite technologies, providing airtime, hardware, installation, network engineering and management, customer support and value-added services globally for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), federal and state government agencies.
For more than 20 years, Stratos has provided reliable, cost-effective satellite communications solutions to numerous U.S. military and civil agencies, including the Dept. of Defense, Military Sealift Command, Army National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, White House Communications Agency and the U.S. State Department. The formation of SGSI as a separate company will enable Stratos to expand its integration services, providing greater value to government agencies. Later this year, SGSI will be based in a separate office facility in the Washington, DC Metro area.
The new company will allow Stratos to expand and improve the value proposition to government agencies by providing "one stop," turnkey solutions across multiple satellite technologies tailored to meet the agency requirements. SGSI's new headquarters will feature a Technology Demonstration Center that will enable federal government personnel to conveniently test applications.
Stratos President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Parm said, "Stratos expects its customers to benefit greatly from the formation of a new U.S. company that has the single-minded focus that the government market requires."
"SGSI is a great step forward in our ability to address additional markets within the DoD, Federal and State agencies, delivering government-tailored solutions from a North American-owned organization that is backed by many years of experience, innovative services, channel partner strategic alliances, and the most advanced SATCOM technology available today," said Parm.
SGSI's President, Bob Roe, is a leading expert on government applications who previously served as Stratos' senior vice president, mobile satellite systems. Roe's 30 years of experience in the commercial and government satellite sectors include 22 years in the U.S. Navy where he worked in the communications fields for maritime, land mobile, aviation and intelligence commands.
"As the U.S. Government's reliance on commercial satellites and solutions continues to grow and the DoD transitions IT systems toward Net-Centric operations - providing dedicated resources and end-to-end integrated solutions that are technology agnostic from a single integrator will be a key focus," said Roe. "SGSI intends to supplement its capabilities through the use of strategic partners such as small, but innovative businesses, to maximize customer flexibility and choice, and provide an even wider range of end-to-end services, technology advancements and capabilities."
