State of Louisiana Deploys BGAN from Stratos for First Responders
Bethesda, Md. (August 28, 2007) - Stratos Global Corp. (TSX: SGB), the leading global provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions, today announced that the State of Louisiana has completed deployment of BGAN from Stratos to support statewide emergency communication applications.
Stratos' comprehensive mobile satellite communications solution for the State of Louisiana includes installation of roof-mounted satellite antennas and portable Inmarsat BGAN units for continuity of operations and field personnel deployment.
Stratos is the world's largest distributor of Inmarsat's BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network), a mobile satellite service that is widely deployed by first responders, broadcasters and military agencies. BGAN uses lightweight terminals to provide voice and high-speed data (up to 492 kbps) connectivity anywhere in the world.
With the benefits of the Stratos Advantage - which includes a fully redundant network, customer support and training - BGAN from Stratos is elevated far above baseline BGAN services. The Stratos Advantage value-added services provide users with cost control, firewall management, full traffic information, pre-paid facilities, high security options, easy VPN access, messaging services and full IP range.
Simultaneous satellite voice and high-speed data services are critical for State of Louisiana agencies and allow for voice contact with command centers and for direct access to Incident Management Systems when all other terrestrial and wireless systems are not accessible. By combining a full range of equipment and options along with reliable and redundant service, BGAN from Stratos provides a complete communications solution to serve the entire incident response life cycle.
Bob Roe, President of Stratos Government Services Inc., said, "This successful BGAN deployment by the State of Louisiana is an excellent example of Stratos' ability to meet the needs of state agencies seeking alternative, reliable communications for disaster and emergency situations. It is gratifying to help the state meet its aggressive hurricane-preparedness goals, ensuring they have a reliable communications system in place should terrestrial and cellular services become disabled."
