Media Deployment of BGAN from Stratos is Featured at NAB

--BGAN mobile broadband satellite service enables rapid response, streaming of broadcast-quality video from the field--

--New BGAN X-Stream premium service will also be showcased--

Bethesda, Maryland (April 6, 2009) - Stratos Global Corporation, the leading global provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions, today announced it will use the upcoming NAB Show to feature recent deployments of BGAN from Stratos by leading media organizations. Stratos experts will provide BGAN demonstrations and explain recent media deployments April 20-23 in Las Vegas at NAB booth OE411.

Stratos is one of the world's largest distributors of Inmarsat's BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) service, a mobile satellite offering that uses portable, lightweight terminals to provide simultaneous video (up to 256 kbps streaming), high-speed data (up to 492 kbps) and voice connectivity anywhere in the world. BGAN is ideally suited to enable communications in areas where terrestrial or cellular networks are damaged, congested, non-existent or too difficult to deploy.

At NAB, Stratos will also provide briefings on Inmarsat's new premium BGAN X-Stream mobile satellite service, which will soon become commercially available. BGAN X-Stream will allow a guaranteed minimum video streaming rate of 384 kbps, with streaming up to 450 kbps expected under optimal conditions.

BGAN X-Stream will be supported only by Class 1 BGAN terminals. Access to BGAN X-Stream will not require an additional external antenna or any other supplementary hardware. BGAN and BGAN X-Stream customers can achieve guaranteed, end-to-end bandwidth for their time-critical data by using Stratos GuaranteedAccess, which extends guaranteed bandwidth to the terrestrial infrastructure via ISDN or leased lines.

From its NAB booth, Stratos will detail recent successful BGAN deployments, including those by ABC-TV affiliate KSWO (Lawton, Okla.) and French news channel BFM-TV. KSWO uses BGAN as a lightweight SNG tool, enabling transmission of broadcast-quality video from the field. The station also deploys BGAN as a backup technology for disaster-recovery scenarios. KSWO is supported by Stratos channel partner Galaxy 1 (booth OE413). Stratos executive Hugh Donnan will detail KSWO's deployment in his NAB presentation "Satellite Communications and the Affiliate Broadcaster" on April 21 at 9 a.m.

French 24-hour news channel BFM-TV uses BGAN from Stratos with SeaMobile Europe's Media ClipWay software to capture, compress, and transmit both live broadcasts and pre-recorded video from the field. The Stratos Advantage value-added services help BFM-TV monitor airtime, restrict unauthorized usage, and manage costs.

In related news, Inmarsat's FleetBroadband (the maritime version of BGAN) is being successfully deployed by media specialists onboard racing yachts competing in the Volvo Ocean Race, of which Stratos is the official mobile satellite services sponsor. FleetBroadband from Stratos connects the boats with the race organizer and brings live race video and interviews in HDTV to race fans worldwide.

"It is gratifying to see how the wide adoption of BGAN from Stratos is helping media organizations perform at optimal levels at any remote location imaginable," said Stratos President and CEO Jim Parm. "By combining the performance and portability of BGAN with our value-added services to ensure secure and efficient operations, top media organizations are delivering the news anywhere, anytime."

Since its introduction in late 2005, BGAN from Stratos has been widely adopted by media organizations, military agencies, first responders and professionals in many other industries worldwide. Stratos now boasts more than 10,000 BGAN activations in 185 countries.
