DataSat from Stratos is a private satellite-based VSAT network that provides highly reliable data communications between a central hub and almost any number—from tens to thousands—of geographically dispersed locations.
DataSat is enhanced by the modular 3-slot plug-in card feature, which enables customization of each remote site. Future user applications and protocols are easily supported. DataSat’s innovative platform facilitates higher bit rates and better space segment utilization. A high-performance data communications platform for interactive and batch applications, DataSat supports all commonly used data communications protocols, including TCP/IP.

- Architecture:
- Stratos' DataSat Network uses the Stratos' Master Earth Station, satellite channels and remote terminals (VSATs). A remote terminal includes an outdoor antenna (typically 1.2 or 1.8 meters) an Outdoor Unit (ODU) and an Indoor Unit (IDU).
Modular VSAT Unit
Stratos' DataSat VSAT unit offers intrinsic modular flexibility. The basic unit comes with two serial ports and Ethernet LAN. This design enables field upgradeability by allowing the addition of optional PC-like plug-and-play cards to support a variety of interfaces and applications. At each remote site, the plug-in cards are simply inserted in the VSAT back panel, without opening the casing.
